Pelham Conservation Commission Steps Up for Accessibility

Pelham is taking a major step toward outdoor accessibility, thanks to the leadership and generosity of the Pelham Conservation Commission! The Commission has committed a total of $75,000 to help build the All Persons Trail at Merriam Farm Conservation Area. This new trail will allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy nature, including older adults, mothers with strollers, and those with mobility challenges.

A Gift to the Community: Last fall, the Conservation Commission donated $25,000 to this project. Seeing the need for more support, the Commission voted to give an additional $50,000—bringing their total contribution to $75,000. This incredible support moves us closer to our goal of $238,500 to build the trail.

Thanks to the Conservation Commission, Planning Board, and conservation-minded individuals, Pelham has over 3,100 acres of protected land, almost 2,300 acres of which have been declared Town Forests. They have helped keep Pelham beautiful and welcoming for all, and their support of this trail reinforces a strong commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

Why This Trail Matters: Pelham’s population is changing. By 2030, the number of residents 85 and older is expected to double. Yet, most of Pelham’s 22+ miles of trails remain inaccessible to those with mobility challenges. This new trail will change that—allowing more people to stay active, connect with nature, and enjoy the outdoors with their families and friends.

We Still Need Your Help! Momentum is building! With the Conservation Commission’s incredible gift, we are now just $63,625 away from making this trail a reality. If 300 supporters give $100 each, we will be halfway to our goal!

Every dollar brings us closer to breaking ground and creating a space where older adults, people with disabilities, families, and children can enjoy nature together.
