Pelham Bluebird Society Annual Meeting

Yvonne La-Garde, Chairperson of the Pelham Council on Aging and the Pelham Community Trail Coalition Committee, welcomes attendees at their annual meeting.

“Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate the remarkable partnership between the Pelham Bluebird Society, the Council on Aging, and the Community Trail Coalition. Together, we are embarking on a journey that not only enriches our community but also safeguards the natural world around us.

In a rapidly developing world where urbanization threatens our natural landscapes, it has become imperative to create sanctuaries for our local wildlife. The Pelham Bluebird Society stands as a beacon of hope, tirelessly working to provide havens for our feathered friends, particularly the Eastern Bluebird population in Pelham.

Through the installation and maintenance of nesting boxes at vital locations like the Merriam Farm Conservation Area and Celebration Park on Nashua Road, we are not just putting up wooden structures. We are weaving a tapestry of coexistence between humans and nature, ensuring that these beautiful birds have a safe place to call home.

But our efforts extend beyond conservation alone. The Council on Aging recognizes the profound benefits of connecting older adults with nature. We understand that nature is not just healing; it’s invigorating, inspiring, and endlessly fascinating. That’s why we have joined hands with the Pelham Bluebird Society, opening up avenues for older adults to immerse themselves in the wonders of birdwatching and the tranquility of our conservation lands.

Moreover, our Community Trail Coalition, which the Council on Aging sponsors underscores our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. By creating friendly trails in our community, we are breaking down barriers and enabling people of all ages and abilities to partake in the joy of outdoor exploration.

This collaboration is not merely about installing birdhouses or repairing trails. It’s about fostering a deep connection between generations, between humans and nature, and between different organizations united by a common goal. As we gather for the trail clean-up day on April 27th, we are not just tidying up a park; we are sowing the seeds of a brighter, more harmonious future. We invite you to join us.

Together, we are creating spaces where older adults can find solace in nature, where conservation efforts flourish, and where Eastern Bluebirds soar freely. By supporting this partnership, you are not just investing in the present; you are investing in a legacy of compassion, stewardship, and unity.

Thank you for being a part of this extraordinary journey. Let us continue to work hand in hand, nurturing our community and our planet for generations to come.”
